Handing Over/Taking Over Ceremony
PROVINCIAL WATER QUALITY TESTING LAB
HAYAT ABAD, PESHAWAR
World Health Organization (WHO), formally handed over the PROVINCIAL WATER QUALITY TESTING LABORATORY (PWQTL) on 14th July, 2010 at 1400 Hrs local time, facility to LG & RDD which is built by PDA & renovated & scientifically equipped by WHO. Officials from LG & RDD, WHO, PDA & PWQTL were present at the occasion. The well-equipped PWQTL is going to effectively provide water quality testing to the people of KPK. WHO has been an active partner of WASH CLUSTER during IDPs Emergency Relief and Reconstruction.
Speaking at the occasion, Secretary LG & RDD, Mr. Aurangzeb Khan, thanked WHO for standing by Pakistan in times of need. Speaking at the occasion, the WHO representative Dr. Khalif Bile Mohamad said that WHO partnership with Govt Of Pakistan was an old one; he thanked Secretary LG & RDD for providing good and friendly atmosphere and guidance due to which projects funded by WHO have been successfully implemented. He said that WHO will be happy for a broader involvement in future to contribute towards establishments of WQTL in the other areas.

The WATSAN Cell is created to achieve: i).Building capacity of Local Councils to improve water supply and sanitation services; ii).Optimizing impact of WASH Services by improving responsiveness of the Local Councils; and iii).Enhancing capacity for emergency preparedness and response
Tasks / Objectives
- iv. Refining and finalization of the Provincial Sanitation Strategy, processing its approval in collaboration with relevant departments and preparation of action plan for its implementation
- v. Facilitating development and approval of Provincial Drinking Water Supply Strategy;
- vi. Developing WATSAN Management Information System (MIS) and preparation of action plan for its implementation
- vii. Assisting Local Councils in promoting Community Led Total Sanitation, Hygiene Promotion through capacity building to scale up their activities;
- viii. Coordinating effective implementation of Provincial Sanitation Policy and Drinking Water Strategy in collaboration with partner organizations, institutions and stakeholders
- ix. Building capacity of WASH partners through coordination and facilitation of training on Emergency Preparedness & Response (EPRP), Behavior Change Communication (BCC), Water Quality and other aspects of WATSAN Services

- x. Assisting Local Councils in preparation of Water and Sanitation Programs and their documentation
- xi. Coordinating, monitoring and implementing WASH Emergency Programs in the province; and
- xii. Preparation of Annual Report on the State of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion Services of Local Councils
