PESHAWAR, Oct 29: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has urged the Unicef to extend support in mitigating problems of the people of the Peshawar city, which was hit by influx of IDPs from Malakand and Fata coupled with presence of a large number of Afghan refugees.
Senior Minister for Local Government Bashir Ahmad Bilour made the appeal while handing over computers, printers and other office equipments donated by the Unicef to tehsil municipal administrators of Malakand Division including those of newly established nine TMAs.
Peshawar-based Unicef chief of office Deepak Bajrachariya, agency’s other officials, secretaries of local government and local council board, DCO Peshawar and concerned officers were present, says a handout.
Addressing the ceremony, Mr Bilour thanked Unicef for its help and support for strengthening the municipal system in Malakand Division. He also referred to agency’s untiring efforts to support the provincial government in rehabilitating the militancy and flood affected people of Malakand and other areas of the province.
Though the normalcy in Maland Divison, Mr Bilour said, had been restored but the provincial government was still facing greater challenges in the provincial capital due to frequent bomb explosions and other anti-state activities of the militants who had destroyed the civic infrastructure of the city besides causing other damages.
Endorsing the minister’s concerns, the Unicef chief of office assured to take more steps for enhancing the capacity of water and sanitation sectors of the TMAs and disposing of solid waste in the city.
