WASH Cluster Survey in 6-Southern Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Local Government and Rural Development Department (WATSAN Cell), along with UNICEEF has taken the initiative to carry out baseline surveys to assess the WASH service sector situation in six chosen southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The project aimed to assess the availability of WASH services to the communities, analyze the gaps and needs assessment and suggests the interventions along with costing in the project areas.
This video report highlights from initiative to call for expression of interest to meetings and various other steps that took place during the survey till draft final report. NESPAK Consulting Engineers conducted WASH Cluster survey in 6-Southern districts of KPK.The project areas comprised of the following districts;
1. District D.I.Khan,
2. District Kohat,
3. District Bannu,
4. District Lakki Marwat,
5. District Tank, and
6. District Hangu

The WATSAN Cell is created to achieve: i).Building capacity of Local Councils to improve water supply and sanitation services; ii).Optimizing impact of WASH Services by improving responsiveness of the Local Councils; and iii).Enhancing capacity for emergency preparedness and response
Tasks / Objectives
- iv. Refining and finalization of the Provincial Sanitation Strategy, processing its approval in collaboration with relevant departments and preparation of action plan for its implementation
- v. Facilitating development and approval of Provincial Drinking Water Supply Strategy;
- vi. Developing WATSAN Management Information System (MIS) and preparation of action plan for its implementation
- vii. Assisting Local Councils in promoting Community Led Total Sanitation, Hygiene Promotion through capacity building to scale up their activities;
- viii. Coordinating effective implementation of Provincial Sanitation Policy and Drinking Water Strategy in collaboration with partner organizations, institutions and stakeholders
- ix. Building capacity of WASH partners through coordination and facilitation of training on Emergency Preparedness & Response (EPRP), Behavior Change Communication (BCC), Water Quality and other aspects of WATSAN Services

- x. Assisting Local Councils in preparation of Water and Sanitation Programs and their documentation
- xi. Coordinating, monitoring and implementing WASH Emergency Programs in the province; and
- xii. Preparation of Annual Report on the State of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion Services of Local Councils
